Groupware Tools for Asynchronous Collaboration in Academic Sector

چکیده
While academics have continued to rely largely on email, numerous groupware products are now in use in many commercial environments, for example, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange, IBM’s WorkGroup, Novel’s GroupWise, Collabra Share, etc. These systems typically integrate a number of tools for communication, workflow, database-sharing, contact management, and group scheduling, and operate across a variety of environments. In this paper, we survey a range of popular groupware tools that appear to be potentially useful in the academic sector.

متن کاملCan Collaborative Software Development Benefit from Synchronous Groupware Functions?
Large enterprise organizations have software development teams distributed over multiple geographical sites. Because of distance, enterprises face challenges which are similar to those that open source software (OSS) projects have experienced in the past. OSS projects overcame the problem of distance through both development practices and Collaborative Software Development (CSD) platforms, whol...

Large software projects involve a number of people who have to collaborate and coordinate their efforts in order to assure that the work progresses according to plans and that the individuals work with the same goal in mind. However, contemporary development tools traditionally offer little support for groups and hence do little or nothing to help avoiding these problems. Based on a number of e...
متن کاملDefining Tasks, Domains and Conversational Acts in CSCW Systems: the SPACE-DESIGN Case Study
Most of the current academic and professional work requires collaboration between the members of a working group. Groupware tools play a prevailing role in supporting this collaborative work, often from different locations and at the same time. The research field of CSCW (Computer-Supported Cooperative Work) studies how to design effective groupware tools. To increase their potential, groupware...
